Located in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area, Suffolk Virginia has a small town feel with big city conveniences.
When you’re ready for an adventure head out to Bennett’s Creek Park and Boat Ramp. It’s a 50 acre park with a handicap accessible fishing & crabbing pier, covered shelters, tennis courts, playground, 2 free boat ramps, open fields to explore, and a nature trail. If you’re looking for more of a campground atmosphere then Davis Lakes and Campgrounds is the place to be. This fun family oriented park has 275 campsites, nature trails, swimming, & a stocked lake for fishing.
Grab a lawn chair & head to the city parks on Friday nights throughout the summer for the TGIF Summer Music Concert Series. This is a free and family friendly event. Other festivals include the Suffolk Peanut Festival, Taste of Suffolk Downtown Street Festival, and the Nansemond Indian Tribal Pow-wow.
In late November the Holiday Season will officially begin with an incredible Grand Illumination event held in Market Park in downtown Suffolk. Watch as the switch is flipped to illuminate the tall Christmas tree signaling that the holiday season has arrived. Seasonal music will fill the night air and there’s rumor that Santa usually makes an appearance to the delight of young children.
One place not to miss visiting is the Seaboard Station Railroad Museum. This meticulously restored station has a 2 room scale model of Suffolk Virginia. There are Thomas the Train days for the little ones as well as several craft sales throughout the year.
Don’t forget to visit the well-known Planters Peanut Center and take a step back in time. Suffolk Virginia is the birthplace of the famous Planters Peanut mascot, Mr. Peanut. The amazing aroma of roasted peanuts will invite you inside where you can shop the retail store and get complimentary recipes.
